Fermentation Broth Centrifuge Working Principle & Application

The fermentation broth centrifuge is an instrument that used in many industrial and chemical fields. Its purpose is to realize the separation of useful substances or no substances. By ensuring this separation, the utilization rate of the substance can be improved, and many experiments can be carried out.

The working principle of the fermentation broth centrifuge is very simple. It uses the rotor in the centrifuge to rotate at high speed to accelerate the sedimentation speed between the liquid and the solid and then realize the separation. But we need to pay attention to the strength of the rotor. If the strength is not enough, the separation effect will not be produced. Therefore, the design of the structure is very important.

The fermentation broth centrifuge is mainly used in following industries:

1. Alcohol industry

Corn, rice, wheat starch, etc., are the most widely used raw materials in the alcohol industry. More and more alcohol producers, after fermentation and distillation, use a centrifuge to remove water, which solves the issues in large-scale conventional filtration equipment, ranging from large land occupation to high labor intensity and high later-stage maintenance cost. Simultaneously, by high efficiency, stability, and environmental protection, it guarantees efficient dehydration, DDGS quality, and subsequent process energy conservation.

When corn and cassava are used as raw materials, the acid solution’s high sand content is an important factor affecting the stability and service life of the centrifuge. The fermentation broth centrifuge is equipped with high-performance wear-resistant protective materials to significantly extend the maintenance cycle and ensure annual normal running time.

The DDGS high-efficiency centrifuge fully draws on the working principle of the lamella settler. To improve the supernatant’s clarity after centrifuge separation, a certain number of solid particles capturing plates (referred to as spiral plates) are added to the screw conveyor at the clarification section. When the solid suspended particles flow through the spiral ramp, part of them can be effectively attached to the spiral ramp and slide along it into the blades of the screw conveyor to realize continuous slag discharging. Compared with standard centrifuges, it can increase 20~30% in stable recovery rate.

The fully automatic control system is equipped with a CIP washing system, which can effectively solve the problem that it is not wholly cleaned during the shutdown process and effectively avoid the equipment troubles caused by artificial factors.

After the first separation of glutamic acid, it is necessary to consider diluting it with water to carry out the second separation process. The high-efficiency centrifuge for glutamic acid is equipped with a dilution water nozzle at the first separation slag outlet.
